Ned Travers, AEP Lived Experience Ambassador, South Australia, shares his thoughts about his mum, Carolyn, and what her support throughout his journey with epilepsy has meant to him.
What is your favourite thing/quality about your mum?
She makes me laugh - a lot! And ‘free coffee’.
How integral has your mum been throughout your epilepsy diagnosis, testing and treatment?
Mum was there from the beginning - day one, when I had my first seizure. She comes to all the doctors’ appointments, tests, hospital visits and operations and she knows every type of seizure I’ve ever had.
What’s the best piece of advice or life lesson your mum has taught you?
Resilience. Not to feel sorry for myself. Take my medicine on time.
What three words would you use to describe your mum?
Funny
Loves the outdoors
Smiles a lot
Do you have a fond childhood memory involving your mum?
She has a saying when we are going anywhere; "and we’re off!" And growing up we were always going to the park doing active things.
Are you, her favourite?
Yes
If you could gift your mum anything this Mother’s Day, what would it be?
I had to give my sister $250 cash for a gift voucher which she didn’t want, so now I have a gift voucher you can only use online and probably doesn’t work - I would gift my mum the voucher. Haha 😝
